restricted? or respectful?
I was fascinated by the stark cultural differences of this assembly in Bangladesh and the type we have in Scotland. I was talking recently to a colleague who taught in India and the difference in ethos regarding education is amazing. Children stand when their teacher enters the room and sit back down when they are asked to. I don't feel that this approach could be replicated here, however surely there is something to learn from this?

To paraphrase Mr Chalk: “I have no problems getting them to stand when I come into the room… it’s getting them to sit back down again and do some work tha’s the problem…”

lol – I have that feeling too. Tbh, I just wanted to post about this as I was dumbfounded at the differences. I find that with all things there is something to learn from whether it be a good thing or a bad thing. When watching that clip I was thinking ‘Respect is something which is better earned rather than forced’ and that goes pupils and teachers alike.
